The Lockdown Diaries: Day 3

I'll give you a winter prediction: It's gonna be cold, it's gonna be grey, and it's gonna last you for the rest of your life.
(Groundhound Day, 1993)

The Lockdown Diaries: Day 3

Last night it was beautiful. I don't just mean the homage to the health professionals at nine o'clock. I mean that, for the first time, Luna bathed Erin. They both had a great time. I had to mop afterwards, but it was worth it.

Again, I went to bed too late. I think I watch the news too much.

Today I went out to buy bread. My bakery was closing just as I was coming in. There were three workers taking out the rubbish, and they were talking about an "ERE" (Expediente Regulador de Empleo). A neighbour asked what that meant.

"That we are unemployed".

I finally got some bread from a convenience store nearby. It was a bit more expensive, so I didn't buy as much as I use to. I find hard to pinpoint why the streets seemed so desolate. It's a Sunday morning after all, but the buses were empty and people were walking on their own, some of them wearing masks, the good ones. "I should have got me one of those" I thought for myself.

I overheard a telephone conversation:

"She was a positive, but I wasn't".

Today it was Erin who was coughing a bit, but after breakfast she seemed OK. I worked all morning and after lunch the girls played Mini Ninjas.

Titania had a siesta and I worked on the student's "Competencias Básicas". Maybe this is more like "Groundhound Day" and less like "Resident Evil".

Write your diary in Google Classroom.

Tareas para estos días complicados.

Saludos,

Espero que se encuentren bien de salud y de ánimo.

Vamos a hacer unos cambios para que esto funcione mejor.

A partir de ahora usaremos el Google Classroom como plataforma para las tareas. Esto va a ir así:

The Lockdown Diaries

Periodicidad diaria

Yo publicaré mi entrada en el blog a diario. Por ejemplo, la siguiente será "The Lockdown Diaries: Day 3".

Preguntas: The Lockdown Diaries

A: Ningún problema.

The Lockdown Diaries: Day 2

The Lockdown Diaries: Day 3.

Last night I went to bed really late, but I got up at seven. Just in time to get to train a bit.

As I was preparing breakfast Luna and Erin made a "Magical Street Market" with price tags and everything. We had breakfast and then I went to the supermarket. Everything was quiet there today. I bought muffins for everyone.

Titania said "If you want muffins you have to do your chores". Of course, Luna and Erin wanted muffins so everyone was busy around the house during the morning. I vacuumed all the floors of the house.

In the afternoon I got a mail from High School. They had been working hard on setting up Google Classrooms accounts for everyone. I signed in and said hello to all the classes. There were some questions for me, I know! I'll answer them all on Monday, I promise! Please be patient. Two days ago my job was very different. I'll do my best to be a good online teacher.

Right now I'm grading tests while listening to Sunn 0))). Talk to you tomorrow!

The Lockdown Diaries: Day 1

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
(Frank Herbert, Dune)

The Lockdown Diaries: Day 1

Today I woke up at half past seven. That's very late for me, as I usually get up at six. That meant that I would have to skip my morning core workout.

Titania was about to leave for work. Erin was already up. I told Titania about her cough last night, but she told me that she only had a sore throat. Phew!

She left soon afterwards. She is also a teacher but she had to go to school today. So this morning it was Erin, Luna and me. So I had to be a teacher, a father and a househusband at the same time. I have to admit that I failed.

True, I managed to keep the girls fed and happy, but they watched way too much television. I made the beds, washed the dishes and tidied up a bit. I wrote some emails, teacher stuff. I lost too much time watching the news.

My father-in-law came to the rescue. He's a great cook and he had made a thick watercress soup and some delicious meatballs. When Erin saw him she wanted to hug him but she couldn't. Her grandpa blew her a kiss and went away. Erin cried a lot.

At lunchtime Erin threw another tantrum. She's lovely but when she cries she's really loud. She got behind a shelf and when I got her a doll fell and hit me in the head. Ouch. She finally ate some meatballs and a yogurt: Mission accomplished.

The highlight of the day was that I joined Telegram to try to keep up with the new from High School but I also found a friend I hadn't met in like eight years! He lives in Asturias now and he's got married. He is now a book editor. We talked about games and books. I told him about the book I'm reading now.

Image result for ten games you can play in your head

This book is like nothing I've read before. It's about learning how to let your mind go and create its own mental games. I have been playing these games for about two weeks and they are amazing!

For dinner I had a salad. If I don't do any sport I am going to put on weight.

Today I have learned that...
I can't do everything at once.

The Lockdown Diaries: Day 0.

Are we living a life that is safe from harm? Of course not. We never are. But that's not the right question. The question is are we living a life that is worth the harm?
(Joseph Fink and Jeffrey Cranor, Welcome to Night Vale, episode 46: "The Parade")

The Lockdown Diaries: Day 0.

Some names have been changed.

The news came to me while I was having lunch. I heard the bell of Titania's messages. The classes had been cancelled. I stared at the screen in amazement. I knew it was a possibility but I didn't expect it so soon. Maybe the situation was worse than I thought.

Anyway, I finished lunch and I went to school to pick Luna and Erin up. I knew that most of my students would be ecstatic but I was shocked. I started exchanging messages with other teachers. We had the same worries: Did we have to go to school? In Madrid they had to. What about the second term grades? We didn't know yet.

After what seemed like a long time Luna and Erin got into my car. I had prepared a calming daddy talk for them but Luna was already in the know. She said that the students cheered, shouted and laughed when they heard the news but she was a bit worried.

"Daddy, are we all going to die?"
"No, sweetheart," I replied.
"I don't want Erin to die!"
"Me neither."
"I don't want to die!" added Erin.
"No one is going to die," said I, in my take of a calming voice.

When we got home all the dolls were put in a quarantine. I asked Erin why and she explained that it was because of the "problemavirus". My new favourite word.

Titania came home shortly afterwards. She knew someone who knew someone who was infected, so she was a bit worried herself. We talked and we decided to stay at home as much as we could. We called our parents and told them that they wouldn't see their granddaughters in two weeks. It wasn't a happy call, but they all understood.

It was time to go shopping. The chemist's was deserted but the supermarket was crowded. It was a bit tense. The carts were fuller than usual, the lines were longer. Everybody was on their mobiles. I bought sausages and hot dog buns to make a special dinner.

At bedtime the girls were really excited. I told them two of my best stories, "La princesa Pelusilla" y "El príncipe del pelo de vainilla", but in the end mummy had to step in. Quick dinner and a shower for me. I checked my emails but there wasn't much new information. My friends from Rolegate wanted to move the game to Discord. Sounded like a good idea, so we did just that. I played a chess game and I won.

Titania was already fast asleep. She was coughing a bit, so I slept in the sofa.
